From the President’s desk
5 December 2018
Hi all
SENIOR
VOLUNTEER
Congratulations to Past President Peter Smith, as being a finalist
in the NSW Awards for Senior Volunteer of the Year. While not
gaining the State Award, receiving earlier the 2018 Sydney
Mid-Western Senior Volunteer of the year, was already a worthwhile
achievement. Thank you Peter, for your contribution to Club and our
any activities. Our Club would be less without Peter, also the
greater Inner Sydney Western Suburbs.
AGM
Our meeting on 6 December 2018, will be our last for the calendar
year, and will be the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Finishing with
our AGM is a significant punctuation point in our Rotary year, that
continues into the next year and finish up on 30 June 2019. At this
meeting we review the financial reports for the last Rotary year
under Past President Rick and commence preparing for the next year
with President Elect Arie and his Board. As for myself and the
Board, we are looking forward to the Christmas.
CHARITY GOLF DAY
Our next event on 21 February 2019, is the Trish Golf Day. Niall
King has had a brochure printed. When we are back meeting in the new
year, it will be a month before the event. While you may not play
golf, there will be ample opportunity to be on the course helping
out, not just looking out from the Club House. It will be a good
walk or drive what carries you around, and not spoilt by cares of
the day.
EDUCATIONAL PROJECT IN
COLUMBIA
Last Wednesday, the Board met, and agreed to register with Rotary
Australia World Community Scheme (RAWCS), the project to supporting
the Rotary Club of Fusagasuga. The RWACS agreement has been
completed and the terms for support is now being finalized,
hopefully before Christmas some small sums are forwarded to
Fusagasuga Club, to assist purchasing school materials. My many
thanks to International Service Director Chris Virgona and
Secretary/Treasurer, Rod McDougall for bring this Project together,
on this side of the world.
SUPPORT IN SPIRIT
Early on Friday, Olga and myself were pleased to attend at Santa
Sabina College, a twilight fair for support of the women and the
Community Trust of Kopanang, a community group in a poorer area 55km
south of Johannesburg. The focus of the fair was the sale of crafts
and artworks of the woman who are raising funds for their community,
in the bleak mining area of Ergo. In their craft and art they draw
support from each other many whom struggle with health and family
problems. HIV/ AIDS has had impacted on the community. The sale
proceeds are for the community group. The project was commenced by
Sister Shelia. This project has not been missed by Rotary, the
Rotary Club of Wahroonga, being an International Project for the
Club and Sister Shelia an honory member. We are richer from the
fair, seeing the support, of school families, many have of whom have
left the school, but cannot leave this community group. We left with
a small Christmas tree addition, a reminder of the ladies coping
with troubles, supported in spirit and kind from Australia. Also,
lots of emails and texts, the modern prayer!
CHRISTMAS PARTY
A reminder, our Christmas Party at Nonna & Co Restaurant, is this
week 6.30, on Thursday. Olga, Penny and Maree, plus others, will
bring it all together. It will be a fun night.
CHRISTMAS POEMS AND CAROL
A poem to add to the back of your Christmas menu; it is fun to do,
is A Bush
Christmas by CJ Dennis. A favourite carol is
Christmas
Bush For His Adorning, words by John Wheeler and Music by William G
James. Both the poem and carol remind me of Christmas past.
Wishing everyone a happy Christmas
