Hi all
Niall King and Trish Golf Day
Cheque Presentation
It was the Club’s pleasure last Wednesday, to welcome Honorary
Member, Niall King to firstly talk to us on living with MS (
Multiple Sclerosis) and then, accept a cheque for $18,800, the net
proceeds from our Trish Golf Day held n February this year.
When
added to the direct donations to the Trish Research Foundation of
$14,700, the day activities totalled $33,500. Well done Rotary Club
of Strathfield, a wonderful Club effort.
For my part, and also shared by many members, was the pleasure of
seeing the Trish Golf Day, not as one off event for this year, but
back as a regular Club activity, with President Elect Arie Papas,
and his Board committed for the next year. We will be back again in
February, 2020, enjoying the golf and the evening that follows.
Facebook and our Club's presence
on social media:
Not all of us are members of Facebook , with our diary entries,
comments and photos. The Rotary Club of Strathfield does have a
Facebook page.
The Administrator (with assistance) is selective of the posts. Last
week we checked the hits, the interest, I would say, in our Club
activities. The posts of the greatest interest (largest number of
hits) were the Trish Golf Day invitation (the day was successfully
promoted !) and news related to the Colombian children’s
presentation ( everyone loves good news stories). These posts
presented the Rotary Club of Strathfield to a wider community, and
with Colombian Children it had international impact.
The approach is, less is more. Have you had a look lately?
Election Day, back inside the
gate! On the BBQ of course
The Federal Election are on the 18 May, 2018, and once again our
Club is to support the Chalmers Road School, with its fund raising
in operating the Club BBQ. At the recent NSW State elections we were
there and our efforts was $3,000 plus, towards the new school bus.
We will be back there, turning the sausages, and chatting with staff
and families from School. Warm and interesting conversations.
Club Change Over
Our Club changeover, where we thank the retiring President and
Board, and welcome the new President and Board is on Saturday
evening, 22 June, 2019, at the Strathfield Golf Club. It should be a
wonderful evening. Save the date and try to be there. The Club has
had many achievements during the year, least of all has been
finishing the year with our membership still intact. A reason to
celebrate and welcome President Elect Arie Pappas.
This week’s poem
At our last meeting, a wonderful Partners Night, Olga read a poem by
the Late Les Murray, Cherries from Young. A poem of the enjoyment of
cherries, normally at Christmas, when celebrations are near. A copy
of the poem is in the back pages of our Bulletin. Or read it
here
Les passed away on 29 April, 2019. His funeral is in Krambach on 10
May, 2019. Kramach a small town, not far from Bunyah, where Les
lived and which was the subject of many of his poems. I know Bunyah,
and sometimes live there, often no longer than a weekend. Bunyah,
half way between Gloucester and Foster, is where the roads are
gravel, the dairy truck is no longer seen, and peak hour traffic is
being caught behind the school bus, on a twice daily route to
Gloucester. The town, if there was ever one, was small, but there is
Bunyah Hall, a flag pole, the chalk board out the front (Craft Group
Wednesday, 9.00 to 12.00) and tennis court, over the road from the
fire station shed. The post office store, the school and small
church they closed decades ago and are now homes.
