10 April 2019
Hi all
The 2018 Youth Achievement Awards
This week we have, on Wednesday 10 April, 2019, at Strathfield Town
Hall, the 2018 Youth Achievement Awards. The Club has partnered with
Strathfield Council to facilitate youth achievement in our local
area. President-Elect Arie Pappas has worked closely with the
Council, bringing the evening together. While in the Rotary back
office, Usha Garg, our awards evening super planner was doing her
part and Rod is there, with the layout and art work for the program.
This year it is an auditorium event, seated, and in style of an
awards ceremony, not too dissimilar to the Club’s Police Officer of
the year awards, but not over dinner. This is a new format for the
Club, a different template to the past events. No doubt, it any
form, it will be successful, with a record number of nominations.
The evening’s Master of Ceremonies, will be one of our own youthful
members, Dimitry Palmer.
RYPEN
RYPEN ( Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) was held last weekend (5
to 7 April 2019), at Teen Ranch at Cobbity. Our Club sponsored 4
students and 2 students were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Concord.
Expertly managed by Rotarian Peter Smith. Meeting with schools in
our area, selecting 6 students who would benefit from the camp,
discussions with the Concord Club, with parents too' assisting with
the transport to and from the venue. The 6 students came from St
Patricks , Homebush Boys and Strathfield Girls High School (SGHS) .
RYPEN is for school students aged 14 to 16 , providing encouragement
for their schooling and social development.
I can say it was a great weekend for those who attended. On
District 9675 RYPEN
Facebook Page (click), on Monday morning after the weekend,
there are 80 plus photos are up and a video. Have a look! They had a
fun time as a 'thank you' email from Rakshita Surisetti (SGHS)
attests
.
President Elect
Arie Pappas
Interesting, but same fun as RYPEN, also last weekend, Arie was
attending PETS, (President Elect Training). Thank you Arie, for the
commitment to our Club.
Rustic thoughts
As for myself, I was lost in the country, pondering the height of
the grass and crooked gates , no crooked stiles, although such may
be needed if the gate is not fixed.
Bright morning star
Eastern Standard Time, resumed over the weekend. The sun is rising
later, but my time clock is unadjusted, On weekend about 5.00 am (EST)
there was a wonderful morning star in the eastern sky, This has
prompted the poem,
Australian
Sunrise (click), by James Lister Cuthbertson.
