17 April 2019
Hi all
Youth Achievement Awards Night
Wow! what a great night Wednesday, 10 April 2019, at Strathfield
Town Hall, 200 plus, youth and family attending the Youth
Achievement Awards Night. If you have not already done so, have a
scroll through the
photos (click)
This year's evening was an open event, family and
friends attending with no cost. This approach was the core to the
success of the evening along with the planning by Arie, Usha and
Rod. Thanks, must also go to our partners for the event, Strathfield
Council, and their staff who worked with our own Club’s President
Elect Arie and his team. The team was the Rotary Club of
Strathfield, Honorary Member, Jodie Mckay, Mayor of Strathfield
Gulian Vaccari, our MC for night, Dimitry Palmer, Thaya, Ed, Janell,
Christine (wife of Chris Haseldine), Rick, and to the audience.
Rotary possible membership and other members were there holding the
night together.
Agricultural Man at the Show
Over the weekend, I was at the Royal Easter Show. Other than just
enjoying the Show, I was out looking at cattle, the
Devon breed (click), with
the possibility of buying, for the country, 2 breeding cows. Devon
were one of original breeds to come into the north coast, and
dominated until recent times with the Hereford and Angus becoming
more the preferred herds. Discussions and attending the late
finishing judging on Sunday and asked to assist in sashing the grand
champion Devon bull. I was honoured and my doubts on purchases were
now none. The preparation of the paddocks and yards are underway.
Who would be a Show Judge?
The Devon breed (click) is
a reddish brown, not black. The popular breed is Angus that can be
black or brown, generally presented as black. For the table black
cattle are priced higher than their Browns or white, and speckled
relatives. This may explain the late finishing judging of the Devon,
the earlier afternoon judging was for the Angus and Limousin, a
French breed, also in either black or brown, finishing late, it took
over 2 hours, the dominant colour of the Limousins on show was
black. Palm Sunday, as it was last Sunday, is a big day at the Show.
If you look through the judging list, it is a very big day, for all
exhibitors, dogs, cats, horses, flowers and cattle. For an
exhibitor, it is a day starting before dawn, having the exhibits and
animals ready and on display before 8.00 am, when the gates open. By
the end of the day everyone was tired indeed.
Partners Night
Please save the date: 1 May 2019 - it will be a Partners Night. We
are making the presentation to the Trish Foundation from the funds
raised on our Trish Golf Day, in February 2019, and our Honorary
Member, Niall King OAM, will speak to us about MS. He has titled the
talk, “The personal side of MS’’. This is our first proper Partners
Night at the new Strathfield Golf Club, and hopefully a good
experience, leading us on the changeover dinner later in the year.
