From the President’s desk
19 September 2018
Hi all
Last week's meeting
To paraphrase Roger Vince:
‘What a great night it was for Strathfield Rotary last Wednesday’.
Many thanks to Elizabeth Owen and the girls for their contribution
and company during the evening. The message Elizabeth so eloquently
delivered about the Interact Club at Meriden was very well received
and we appreciate her enthusiastic leadership of the group. The
three girls led by their President Kate spoke so well of their many
achievements and they and the Interact Club are to be congratulated.
The Rotary International theme for this year is "BE THE
INSPIRATION". The Interact leaders this year certainly were this to
the other Interactors, to the community both here and overseas, and
to Meriden.”
My week
That evening, I was in quarantine recovering from a ripper of a
tummy bug, and this was not something to be shared. My thanks to
President Elect Arie Pappas for filling in for me, and to Roger
Vince, for pulling the evening together; it was by all accounts a
wonderful evening. On Friday, I chatted with Stefania, the host at
Nonna’s Restaurant. They were happy the restaurant was full, noisy
and buzzing, like an Italian Restaurant has to be. I am sure the
Club will have occasion to return for another gelato and coffee.
Tonight
Tonight we welcome the Police to the Rotary Club of Strathfield,
from the commands at Burwood and Auburn. To all the Police Officers,
their families and friends, welcome, please enjoy the evening.
Nomination is a community honour. More importantly it is a sign of a
community’s appreciation of policing, from road traffic to
criminality. We are a safe community from Police Officers going to
work and doing a great job. Sometimes there is the tragedy, when a
Police Officer loses their life in the course of their duties. The
proceeds of our raffle tonight will be for Police Legacy (see p8 of
our
Bulletin click). Thank you, officers! Thank you also to our
generous sponsors for the evening.
