21 November 2018
Hi all
TONIGHT
Good evening, the Rotary Club of Strathfield welcomes guests to the
Club for “Pride of Workmanship” awards. This year represents the
twenty-first year for the awards by our Club. Even just to be
nominated, is an award in itself as it acknowledges recognition of a
community or peers of an outstanding and respected worker.
NSW POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR
AWARDS
On Friday, 16 November, Olga and myself attended the Rotary Clubs of
NSW Police officer of the year awards. At the Hyatt Regency Sydney.
A lovely evening and from our own earlier Police Officer of the year
awards, when we hosted the Auburn Flemington and Burwood Commands,
two representatives from the Auburn Lidcombe Commands were nominated
finalists. They were Snr Cst Rahsan Keles for Metropolitan Field
Operations, and Seok Ong for the IJ (Irene Jugergens APM) Fellowship
Award, unsworn, Community Services. Our nominees from Auburn
/Flemington Seok and Rashan were both unsuccessful for the award
category they were nominated. The Police Officer of the Year, for
NSW, was
awarded to Snr Cst Steven Day, (click) Blue Mountains Police
Rescue Squad, a big gig!
The
venue and evening were wonderful, Our District Governor, Sue Hayward
was asked to make a presentation. The Minister for Police in NSW The
Honourable Troy Grant was present, and before the final award, Troy
was made a Paul Harris Fellow. This was a great night for Rotary,
almost all the awardees said thanks to Rotary, in their own words.
The event is in the true sense a gala evening, with two mounted
Police Officers, and two highway patrolmen, to welcome the guests,
The evening was not for Rotarians, Politicians, Police
Commissioners, but for Police Officers. To conclude and record, the
pick of the dinner menu, was the dessert, deconstructed strawberry
log, king Island cream, biscuit crumbles. Everyone is urged to
support his event next year when at our Club and at the State night,
regardless of nominations.
POEM
The poem I chose this week may be a bit gloomy but it reflects a
work theme in nineteenth century country life. It is a bush poem by
Henry Lawson. The tale is a sad work poem

Christmas is coming sooner than I can deal with, but one of the
