Last Week
What a wonderful meeting last Wednesday. We had Sonny Lui, a senior
student from Punchbowl Boys’ High, present his story and desire to
become a space scientist, and his acceptance to participate in the
US Space Academy program. Our Club can offer some small assistance.
A great part of the evening was the meeting the accompanying
teachers, Michelle Crutchfield the Career Advisor and Suada Bilali a
Deputy Principal. Suada at the end of the meeting, gave an update on
the School’s activities. It was an interesting and a warm meeting
Nostalgia
Michelle in her introduction of Sonny, referred to her father’s
membership in Rotary. The questions had to follow. What Club?
Moorebank. His name? Arthur Crutchfield. A shout from across the
room from David Croft, “I remember Arthur!” As I write this piece, I
also remember, only as a blur, the name. From the 1980s and 1990s
recalling Arthur as a mover and shaker in the old District 969.
Michelle, not forgetting her Rotary childhood experiences, knew
Rotary would help her student achieve his goals. Michelle had her
father’s touch, knowing her way round Rotary meetings. There was no
need for an introduction of Sonny, by a quickly briefed Rotarian,
she went straight to the microphone, telling us all that had to be
said; the daughter back home at Rotary. Our Editor, Brad,
coincidentally a past student, thanked Sonny and Michelle.
Membership
Not missing an opportunity, I asked Michelle to consider Rotary
membership and from the chatter I heard, mentioned Interact.
Police Officer
of the year
Planning for Police Officer of the year on 19 September, 2018,
continues. Thanks to the Committee of Usha, Allan and Rod. This
advent could be a management case study on planning and risk, it is
not, it is real!. Your Committee, our team, are resolving the
issues.
Web Page
Our Web Page and Face Book, are great achievement
for the Club, and is of a high standard. A commercial enterprise,
with more money than us, pays a lot for an information system like
ours. The web page has weekly meeting attendance notification,
photos, published bulletins, an archives, plus more. The web page is
not to be taken for granted. Raymond, our current Web Master, is
having a wonderful holiday and will be away. We need an assistant
Web Page Master. This could be a new skill for someone. Every day
for me through Rotary, my life experiences and vocational skills are
bettered by being President.
