24 April 2019
Hi all
Easter week
It is the Easter week and many Rotarians are away, all enjoying a
well-earned break, accrued by many over years.
Rotary family
I caught up briefly with George and Catherine Hallworth at the
Easter service. George was himself, chatting, and hoping to get to a
meeting soon. While earlier in the week, I had a conversation with
Jacquie Ruston - the wife of Late Bruce Ruston, who with Ted Ingall
were members in their younger days of the Rotary Club of Cabramatta.
Both Jacquie and Ted, with Brian, attended a luncheon for past
members. Jacquie says, Ted was there chatting with his old friends.
This is a quality of life, aging with Rotary friends, where your
membership does not lapse.
Partners Night
A partners Night! Yes, that's right, and I return to this subject
from last week's bulletin. Please save the date: 1 May 2019 - it
will be a Partners Night. We are making the presentation to the
Trish Foundation from the funds raised on our Trish Golf Day, in
February 2019, and our Honorary Member, Niall King OAM, will speak
to us about MS. He has titled the talk, "The personal side of MS''.
This is our first proper Partners Night at the new Strathfield Golf
Club, and hopefully a good experience, leading us on the changeover
dinner later in the year. Aiming to exceed, 50 attendees on the
night. The Trish Golf day was a Club team effort, the evening is the
finalisation of the event. Not to be an evening of
self-congratulations, but a Club celebration of an event that had
slipped away from the Club, now is back and successful.
Change
In a newsletter earlier in the week, Rotary International (RI),
through the 2019 Council of Legislation decided to expand the
membership of Rotary International to include Rotaract Clubs. The
two entities are continuing to be separate, but never the less are
both members of Rotary International. There is no change to their
dues. I not sure if this change in the legislation will have an
impact on the current debate on Re-districting. We will have to wait
and see. The inclusion of the Rotaract Clubs will make our district
larger. I suggest that all members click on the Club email of 20
April 2019 and read through it or you can get
highlights (click) on Council on Legislation 2019 . The end of the email, RI slipped up
the annual dues by a dollar $US 68. Extra information and
clarification on Re-districting is required be our Board Meeting on
02 May 2019.
Breeding
A post script from last week's Bulletin piece and my story of
presenting the prize to the Grand Champion Devon Bull, Vix Milstone
M179 (H), the photo has come through, and I have attached the
link. During last weekend, I was back at the Show, wandering
through the Royal Agricultural Society's archival and historical
exhibition, my eye caught the presentation of the Devon Grand
Champion Bull in 1971. Not of the same importance in 2019, both in
the breed and the selection of the presenter of the Championship
Ribbon.
