From the President’s desk
27 March 2019
Hi all
The Bus...Rotary is on it
Saturday
23 March 2019, wow what a day! Before dawn, Peter Smith
hitching up
and delivering the Rotary BBQ to Chalmers Road School, Rotarian
Andrew Aravanis and son Greg, also before dawn, setting up the BBQ
at Chalmers Road School. Michelle, (the boss) collecting the
sausages, from Milpera, and then back to the school. The supply
chain was moving fast. The gas on, burners started, sausages, bacon,
eggs cooking. We were not alone, the staff and families from
Chalmers Road were there too, on the counter, taking orders, with
Rotary on the BBQ. Meanwhile out front, on the street, the political
guys and girls were setting up their posters, chatting, manoeuvring,
to be the only choice, or the best. They were there outside the
fence and we are inside. It was 8.00 AM, voting was starting.
Success for the BBQ team, with the voters leaving with a sausage
sandwich in hand, other were compelled to eat before voting.
Importantly, at the end of the day, the shortfall for the Chalmers
Road bus had been covered. The final sum, perhaps reaching $3,000.
Catch the photos on the School Facebook page. Rod was there and we
have Club photos of the team.
Winners are grinners
The subject of the day was of course the NSW state elections, our
Honorary Member, Jodie Mackay, was heavily involved. Our
congratulations to Jodie on her re-election. Commiserations to
Rotarians barracking for others.
Sick bay
On Sunday, I called by Alwyn Rehabilitation Hospital, and chatted
with David Croft, all is fine. He will be out of Alwyn during the
week, and hoping to be back to a Rotary meeting within the
fortnight.
Phone secrets exposed
Last week’s compelling guest speaker at the Club, was Luke Athens, a
Private Investigator, and his subject, telephone surveillance, Luke
captured us, please read Joe’s report is in our
Bulletin. We could
have been there until midnight listing and sponging up the data. Can
I remind the members, we must finish close to 8.30pm? In the speak
of the night, a new Club algorithm, save and ask questions at the
end of the talk.
Big is better?
On redistricting for our Rotary District, a proposal by Rotary
District 9675, our District, and anticipating further decline in
club’s membership. The redistricting would result in a single Sydney
Rotary District. Currently the greater Sydney Metropolitan area is
divided along a north/south line. For guidance our Club has to
indicate support for the proposed change, or the District boundaries
be unchanged and according the clubs in the District also remain
unchanged. The Board is to vote at the next Board meeting
Strathfield’s view.
