Hi all

Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal

On Sunday, we were the support for Rotarian Peter Smith, the Project Manager, for Strathfield’s Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal. At 9.00 am, some there earlier, collector teams for children from St Patrick’s College, Strathfield Girls High, Homebush Boys High and the members of Meriden School Interact Club, assembled at  Strathfield Town Hall. Rotarians hovering grouping up with their team of 4 students, the map, the kits and off they went. My students were from St Patrick’s College, we drove up to Hunter Street, mobile phone number confirmed and the boys were off in pairs. After Hunter, around the corner to Thomas and then down Cameron, finishing near 11.00. Back to the Town Hall checked in the collection bags, good byes and thank you, a Big Mac Voucher. It was fun, chatting with the boys, and thanks to them for espying a Lamborghini parked in a drive, I would have missed it. Joining us was District Governor Di North, thanks Di for being part of our Club project. Also Di will be at the Club Changeover.

Back at the Town Hall, who has come in but George Hallworth, offering help, but I suspect checking how his daughters Susan and Leslie, are going organizing the collection routes, the maps and briefings, then wandering through to the counting house, former Rotarians Connie Galletta  and Keith Stockall with Kathy are working alongside Graham True and Rod McDougall. It could have  been 2007.

As I left at 11.30, the teams were still coming in, a perfect community and youth project. The collection would not occur but for the children of the participating schools. When the announcements are made of the sums and success of the day is lauded, it should be remembered, it was the  children who were knocking on the doors, or now pushing intercom buttons. Congratulations to the participating schools,  well done, also to Peter Smith and his team for bringing it all together. (photos PP Rod McDougall)

Best wishes to Jodie McKay.

On behalf of the Club, we send our best wishes from the Rotary Club of Strathfield, to our Honorary Member, Jodie McKay, who is putting herself forward forward in the leadership ballot of the Australian Labor Party in the NSW Parliament. I ask all who support our Club, please listen to Jodie’s speech on the her Facebook page, speaking  when accepting the nomination. It is a very  humbling speech. Whatever the outcome of the ballot, I can say from all of us at Rotary, Jodie you are  the best, with no doubt! Go Jodie.

Club Changeover

My Rotary year as President is drawing to an end, and President Elect Arie is ready to start. Please click on the web and Face Book page to book and pay. You don’t have to be a member, if you want to be there, you're welcome, stacks of room and you  know us. We are the same, as you may have last seen, but with more fun.

Poem

The poem is for our travelers, when queuing to clear customs. It is titled Pressure.  It is short poem by Les Murray, from Bunyah, half way between Gloucester and Forester, on the mid north coast.
