From the President’s desk

31 October  2018

Hi all

Armistice
It is end of October, 2018, and the weeks are accelerating to Christmas and year end. We should pause remembering, 100 years ago , World War 1 was ending. The battles were continuing and lives lost before the Armistice was signed on 11 November, 2018. The memories of this war remain today, the memorial in churches and schools listing the soldiers and the crosses . On Liverpool Road the memorial an artillery gun, in Homebush at Davies Square, the crossed riffles on stone, and the names are there too. Lest we forget, the horrors and deaths, especially
of family, that we did not know but our grandparents did.

Pride Of Workmanship
Before we end the year, there remains Pride Of Workmanship. This project links our community and vocational services, the core activities of Rotary. Please support Nick and the team has they gather nominees from the businesses in our area.

Drought ... adopt a town
On Sunday I called into a small fruit shop at Mulgoa, not far from Warragamba Dam, heading for Silverdale. On the counter was a flyer Rotary Club of Wallacia – Mulgoa: 'Adopt a Town, Rylstone', and organising a town visit on 7, 8 & 9 December, 2018. Mulgoa, Wallacia and add on Silverdale, small villages, with a big hearted Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of Caringbah has done a lot of electronic work on their prodject . They have produced a U Tube clip

and Facebook Page (click) on their Rotary Clubs adopt a town project web page (Click). At Strathfield , as I have said earlier, we are still undecided, considering if we run the danger of taking on too much. This Rotary Project is gathering momentum and we wish the Clubs participating success and a safe trip out there.

I have a faint memory of Rylstone, but I do know our very own Anuradha and Umesh Kamkolkar had a life there, Umesh being the town Doctor for decades, before retiring to Strathfield. On the trip to the Mudgee Conference earlier in the year, we passed the turn off to Rylstone, I now wish I had time to visit. here is another Henry Lawson poem ,centred on the Capertee river and valley  around Rylstone & Kandos, It is Old Bullock Driver (click)

Police Officers Awards
The Annual State Police Officers Awards are being held on 16 November, our Club has Two (2) nominees for the award from our night for the Commands at Burwood and Auburn. Please let me know if you wish to attend.
