"CanTeen"

The Bulletin reports:

"Tracey has always been an ‘outdoor girl’. She graduated with a Diploma in Business Technology and is currently studying for a Masters degree at UTS.

Tracey is the Division Coordinator for the national organization CanTeen which is concerned with young people affected by cancer. Of the 350 children in her division, some have cancer themselves, some are bereaved siblings or offspring and some are cancer victims in remission.

CanTeen was started in 1985 by Michael Barberry, a cancer victim himself, "to support and empower young people" 12 to 24 years old. CanTeen only receives $13,000 funding per annum from the government and to supplement this holds a "Bandanna Day" (25th Oct) and a National Ball. Their annual budget is ½ million dollars for this division out of which they provide funds for at least one camp a month and at least one recreational activity. Most of the donations to CanTeen consist of those less than $50 so be generous! Every little bit helps!

Thanks to CanTeen, young people affected by cancer can be helped to empower themselves to overcome the potential problems associated with this illness."
