The Bulletin Reports:
"As the CEO of Ashfield Infants
Home, Marie told us how, since 1874 the home has taken in mothers and
children. A recent history of the home, "Betrayed and Forsaken" tells of
this charity, now registered as a charity, which has a voluntary Board and
is non-denominational. Today it caters for families in high risk or without
support.
The name of the home is being
debated at the moment because it cares for children from newly-born to
school age.
A staff of 53 help run the long
day care scheme, where 250 children are looked after, the business services
unit which is the administrative arm, and the family services unit which
helps children at risk, developmentally delayed or whose parents suffer from
mental illness or are in stressful situations. There are therapists working
with these children on early intervention programs at the Sydney Hope Family
Cottage.
It is obvious that Ashfield
Infants Home lies at the cutting edge of prevention of childhood problems."
