PRESIDENT RICK'S RUN
President
Rick Vosila is running the Stamford Financial Hilly Marathon on Hamilton
Island on 6th May 2018 in support of Chalmers Road School, Strathfield and
specifically to raise funds to go towards the purchase of a
wheelchair-accessible bus for the school that educates the intellectually
disabled.
President Rick Vosila says “The least I can do is spend 4-5 hours
running up and down hills on Hamilton Island if it means I can raise a
few dollars to help buy that bus.”

PS
"Oh yes... and running in my Superman costume again!" says Rick
Your support for this great cause would be very much appreciated by the
children of Chalmers Road School that can't get out and about at the moment.
Let's buy that bus!
RENEWAL
THE
CHANGEOVER ... it's upon us; only months now until President-elect Charles
Pitt takes over from President Rick. This means a NEW opportunity for you to
contribute to our Rotary Club.
The new board will be looking to make
our Club exciting. The district assembly is next week where our new board will
involve its self with a strategy
What's there to do I hear you ask? Lots!
For example, some jobs categorised within club
service: the programs, Facebook, the enews, the webpage
maintenance, web design, electronic communication generally. And there is so much more. Now is time for renewal. There are many
opportunities to contribute to our Club.
If you want to be a player think about
what's available to you. Can you inspire us? Search out a club director.

ANZAC DAY
In past years Strathfield Rotary Club
would hold an
ANZAC day breakfast
(click). It's a video of an event in 2009 (give it time to load)
Here are some ANZAC facts
*
ANZAC is an
abbreviation for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
* April
25, Anzac Day, was the day the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps landed
on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.
* ANZACs
were all volunteers
* The
first dawn service on an ANZAC Day was in 1923.
* The
ANZACs were on the Gallipoli Peninsula for only 8 months, where around 8,000
of them died.
* There
is no town called “Gallipoli”. It is the name of an area.
* ANZAC
Day was not a public holiday in Australia until 1921.
* The
date, 25 April, was officially named ANZAC Day in 1916.
