Rod McDougall
Job Talk Wednesday 13
November 2002
The Bulletin(20 November 2002) reports:
Rod McDougall provided members with a wonderful journey through his
career. He explained as a young boy growing up in Strathfield, he always
knew what he wanted to be and felt confident about achieving his dream. He
was going to be a Pilot.
His application to the Air Force all seemed to be going very well, his
academic achievements from Homebush Boys High holding him in good stead.
But them came the medical, and to his surprise, he was classed as
medically unfit. He felt shattered, but was not going to stop trying. So
an application to Qantas was soon underway. Unfortunately their first
requirement was a medical examination and the result was the same.
Thus, Rod needed to set his sights in another field, and it just so
happened at that time a new and exciting industry was desperately seeking
'Test Pilots' to launch computers to the world.
Rod virtually got in on the ground floor, learnt everything that he could,
and flew as high as one could, through all the myriads of technological
changes, enjoying every moment along the way. It has proved to be a very
rewarding and satisfying career.
