VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED FOR A BARBECUE IN QUEENSLAND !!!

Strathfield Council have approached us with a request for assistance with a difference.

Following the devastating Queensland floods in 2011, Council have forged a special relationship with Somerset Council (in Queensland) and has mounted a number of support initiatives for the affected communities, including a Christmas Toy Appeal.

Somerset council will hold an anniversary event on 14 January 2012 at Fernvale, 60 km out of Brisbane (a second event will be held in nearby Lowood on 15 January 2012). After a challenging year the local community group volunteers are exhausted from their flood relief efforts and require help to man the barbecue at the events and Strathfield Council are approaching Strathfield community groups for assistance. Overnight accommodation would be paid for by Somerset Council.

It seems unlikely that we can help, but it is worth putting the question to members. If you are likely to be near either Fernvale or Lowood on the dates shown (or know someone who will be) and feel that you or they could assist, please contact Secretary Rod McDougall.

SUNSET ON THE SYDNEY

A ticket to the event might make a great Christmas gift!! Or feel free to use the invitation located here to invite friends or colleagues. Payment receipts are available on request. Note that due to space restrictions on The Sydney, tickets are strictly limited in number.

ROTARY'S AREAS OF FOCUS

Rotary clubs serve communities around the world, each with unique concerns and needs. Rotarians have continually adapted and improved the way they respond to those needs, taking on a broad range of service projects.  Read more

In terms of the areas of focus here is an interesting email received from Vibha Patil, a past President of Nasik Road Rotary Club in India

Past President Vibha Patil"Dear friends in Strathfield Rotary,

How time flies, it was just like it happened yesterday.

My association with Strathfield Rotary and Nasik road Rotary club dates back to 2000-01 when Rtn. Raymond McCluskie and I were going to be installed as presidents of our respective clubs.

I take this opportunity to Wish each one of you and your families a wonderful year 2012 ahead.

Thank you for being partners in Service.

Vibha Patil"

At the turn of the century Strathfield Rotary undertook a Literacy project in India with the help of Nasik Road Rotary Club  and in the following year, Past President Roger Vince's year, a Sanitation project was also undertaken with Nasik Road Rotary Club. These are just a couple of ways how we became involved in international projects; all part of Rotary's areas of focus.
