So now we know how to avoid
having a stroke or at least minimizing the chances. Michelle Sharkey
certainly knew her subject in last weeks talk and was able to impart
her knowledge in laymen’s terms. It seems we need less stress for
whatever it is that ails us.
Every President lives in hope
of having a good year. An all round successful year. I think the
fellowship aspect of Rotary life in Strathfield this year has been
as good as ever though I was beginning to think that fundraising
might be lagging just a little bit. However last Wednesday
Treasurer Bob gave me the figures to the end of May showing that we
had donated just on $46,000 to worthy causes. While that is a long
way from being a record amount it is still well over $900 that we
have given away each week, so perhaps it wasn’t all that bad after
all.
Remember Veronica Necyporuk?
Yes, of course, she was the lady who told us about how malaria was
spread. She recently emailed Bradley with answers to two questions
that went unanswered on the night.
Q1.
If a mosquito bit a person
who was HIV positive would this virus be transferred to another
person when the mosquito bit again?
-
No, because the mosquito
sucks up blood and not injects blood, and also the HIV virus
would not survive in the time taken for the mosquito to bite
again.
Q2.
Where did the malaria virus
come form ie where did it originate?
-
The answer is not known as
malaria has been around for centuries and has been called
different things. It was only in the late nineteenth century
and early 20th century that it was discovered that malaria was
transmitted by mosquitoes.
So thank you for clearing that
up Veronica.
“The important thing is
not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for
existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the
mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of
reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little
of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity.”
