Many thanks to PE Rod McDougall
for chairing last weeks meeting, which I hear, went very well.
Sincere thanks Rod. I had an unfortunate episode which came quite out
of the blue and laid me low for a time – yes I know old age and
riotous living.
Catherine and I attended the
final Presidents meeting of this Rotary year last Friday at the
Panthers. District Chairmen all gave reports to the meeting,
Vocational, Youth etc. DG Bill spoke on the Port Macquarie Conference
as being an outstanding success – 540 in attendance for the Pirates
Night with a net profit of $20,000 for the Conference. On a sad note
it was announced that the Guildford Club was handing in its Charter.
I think we would all agree that
DG Bill has had a very good year. Incidentally DG Bill has accepted
our invitation to attend our meeting on May 31st when we entertain the
rebound team to Thailand. This will be a partner’s night 6.30 for 7
and we hope to have a good rollup for this night. Burwood, Concord
and Silverwater have been invited though numbers are not yet known.
The GSE Team from Thailand
returned home at the end of April. Our Assistant DG, Peter Davidson,
received a request from Team Leader Siri just before they left for
blankets. The team is from the north of Thailand where apparently it
gets a bit cold – better make that very cold. People are very poor
and need blankets very badly, not necessarily new blankets. Asst DG
Peter felt that his 3 Clubs get together – namely Strathfield, Burwood
and Concord, we could over the next 12-18 months make a worth while
contribution.
Best wishes go to John Watkins
who has managed to catch pneumonia. We hope you are soon well again
John.
