If having an impact on the
audience were the criteria, last weeks guest speaker would be top of the
class. PP Raymond McCluskie told of the effects of the unexpected arrival
of a Down syndrome baby. In a moving address Ray gave us an insight into
some of the issues involved. Through it all Ray wove a golden thread of
sunshine and I am sure that we are all grateful to Ray as well as being a
little wiser.
District Governor Bill
Little invited Vocational Service and International Service Directors to
the Presidents’ meeting at Panthers last Friday. Harley Tarrant, as DG
Elect, was present so with Paul, Bradley and myself Strathfield was well
represented. We were invited to attend the Care Flight helicopter base at
Westmead as a transfer meeting at any time during the coming months. Is
there any interest? We were also encouraged to support the ‘adopt a
village’ programme in the fight against Malaria. One child dies every 30
seconds from Malaria. The most effective method of prevention is a
mosquito net costing $7.50.
In DG Bills newsletter which
is available tonight we are reminded that a $50 saving is available to
Rotarians registering before the 30th November for the Port Macquarie
Conference.
Sunday was the picnic day to
Joan and Ross Brown’s property in the Yarramalong Valley. What wonderful
hosts Ross and Joan are. We owe them a big vote of thanks for their
hospitality! A Rotary get together in such a setting is something special
and to be remembered. The weather was not perfect but the rain held off
until mid afternoon or if you were a walker half way round the course!
Only light rain and not much to worry about though. The trek was lead by
Bob Templeman who was a mine of information on trees, cattle, wombats, you
name it. One or two of the girls arrived back with ticks attached.
It was all great fun! Thank
you to Connie for arranging the day and again thanks to Ross and Joan for
a great day.
Until
next week
Enjoy Rotary
