Our speaker last week is
certainly a budding scientist. Nickolas Smith is in Year 12 at St
Patrick's College and he made full use of his Rotary National Science
Youth Forum award. The award covers two weeks in Canberra with
exposure to some of the top scientific personnel of Australia.
Nickolas came back full of enthusiasm for the opportunity which had
come via the Rotary Club of Strathfield and Vocational Service
Director, Paul Giammarco. Another worth while Rotary programme.
Support for the Salvation Army
Red Shield Appeal next Sunday, 28th May, has been a little
under-whelming. We have for a number of years manned (is that
politically correct?!) the counting house at the Town Hall, and I am
sure that we can do that again this year. However Chairman, Peter
Smith, reports that he has been promised record numbers of students
this year for collecting. He is hoping that we can provide 20-25
drivers for transport/overseeing or supervising purposes. It should
take no more than 2 hours. Can we meet the challenge?
The following Sunday is of course
the fourth of June and the Family of Rotary Picnic Day in
Bi-Centennial Park. From 11am to sunset. There will be an inter Club
tug of war, races, face painting and as our contribution we have
engaged the services of Mr Alacazam, BYO food and drink plus children,
grandchildren, friends, neighbours, in laws – all welcome.
