There was a feeling of great sadness when Roger Vince informed me of the passing of Past District Governor Harry Pickett in the early hours of Monday morning at the age of 98 years.

Our thoughts are with his daughters Janice Vince, Valda Bray, his son Graham and their families.

Harry had a remarkable life and was an extraordinary Rotarian, who recently celebrated 50 years of service, since joining Burwood Rotary Club in December 1959.

Harry was District Governor in 1970/1971, and charted our club in March 1971 and maintained a constant relationship throughout the past 39 years. He lost his beloved wife, Lilian on Father’s Day last year, when she died in his arms. Harry and Lilian are together again.

Australia Day provided a time for celebrations for Ray Wilson, when he was named Strathfield Citizen of the Year. It is recognition of the outstanding and tireless work that Ray has performed throughout the community over many years. Well done Ray and congratulations. Niall King was also amongst the nominees for the award.

Our guest speaker last week, Katy Coppin, from the NSW Organ and Tissue Donors Service, provided members with detailed information on how organ and tissue donation is a life-saving and life-transforming medical process, where one donor can save the lives of up to 10 people and significantly improve the lives of dozens more.

Katy advised members that if they were considering registering as a donor, that it is important to discuss the reasons with your family, partner and friends. I believe it is a decision we all should consider and discuss.

Tonight we welcome Oliver Ward, to discuss ‘Market Cycles and Other Investment Information’.

Cheers,

President Kevin
