Wednesday  24 February 2010

First I would like to thank all those members who attended and participated in our Club Assembly, two weeks ago. The wide variety of views and opinions expressed provides your current and incoming boards vital information on how and where the club should head in the future and as a result guides the club in the direction that members desire it to go.

Last week saw the magnificent result of many hours of tireless work by Niall King, Ray Wilson and Les Hockley, when over one hundred people participated in the Ninth Annual Trish MS Foundation Golf Day and Dinner. The weather was perfect for golf with all players having an enjoyable and competitive time, with victory to the McCluskie Clan. Then a wonderful evening of fine food, merriment and entertainment, superbly hosted by Rod McDougall, concluded with the drawing of the major raffle won by Joseph Kim. I encourage members to read Rod’s report for full details of the day’s activities.

Yesterday the 23rd February was the 105th Anniversary of Rotary, and your board celebrated the occasion at a meeting aimed at arranging preparations for our 40th Anniversary in March 2011.

Next week the Rotary Bowelscan 2010 Program commences in District 9690, with sales from participating pharmacies from Saturday 6th March to Saturday 4th April, at a cost of $10.00 per kit. The objects of the program are to develop a community awareness of the nature of bowel cancer and provide earlier detection of potential or actual bowel cancer. Having recently lost my brother at the age of 61, to bowel cancer, which was detected at a late stage, I encourage members and their families to consider participation in the program.

Tonight we welcome members of The Girl Guides Association, Kerrie Hardie, Dianne Dalton, Candice Roberts and Sue Byrn to accept proceeds from our Christmas Raffle and discuss the refurbishment activities of the Hall at Ismay Street, Homebush.

We also have as a guest tonight Cate Robinson (nee Thomson) who is a member of the Group Study Exchange Team traveling to District 7820, Eastern Canada in May 2010. Cate was nominated by our club and is teacher at Strathfield Girls High.

We welcome and look forward to Nicholas Tham’s presentation on The History of Rare Coins and Bank Notes.

Cheers,

President Kevin
