Past President George Hallworth representing Strathfield School for Seniors accepting laptops from District Governor Paul ReidWhat a wonderful tribute to the persuasive powers of the late Fred Haddon, when District Governor Paul Reid and his wife Julia made a special visit to our club to present four “Re-Configured” Notebook Laptop Computers to the Strathfield School for Seniors. Fred was persistent with his approaches to District Governor Paul after a chance discussion about the needs of the school, and the computers will be of great practical benefit in the limited space available to the school. The end result also provides a great demonstration of Rotary “networking” in action.

We have received a request through District Governor Elect Marilyn Mercer, seeking our help in a simple way to raise the awareness of prostate cancer. The Nepean/Blue Mountains Prostate Support Group is seeking to achieve a place in the Guinness Book of Records, through tying men’s neck ties together, and then placing them around the circuit of Mount Panorama and thus “Tie up the Mountain” on the 18th February 2010, for the Annual 12 Hour Race for Production Karts over the following weekend. So, please take a little time to sort through your wardrobe and drag out all those old ties that you no longer wear and bring them along to our meetings up to the 10th February and I will arrange delivery before the event.

I hope all members and their families were able to celebrate and enjoy Australia Day in the manner befitting the occasion and what it means to each of us.

We certainly started 2010 with a quality guest speaker in
Warren Johnson from Learning Links and we look forward to the quality being maintained throughout the year.

A reminder that our Club Assembly will be held on Wednesday 10th February when we will discuss, among other matters, the club survey.

Cheers,

President Kevin
