Meeting Chair Notes 3 July 2019
These notes were prepared by meeting chair Rotarian Janelle Watson
WELCOME
Firstly, welcome to the new Rotary year. The International Rotary theme is
“Rotary connects the world” and a warm welcome to Jan Barrett; to her first meeting as a
Rotarian.
MEETING POINTS
-
Sergeant Andrew Aravanis did a splendid job for
his first week in the Sergeant’s role.
-
Assistant Governor and Past President Rick Vosila along with Immediate Past
President Charles Pitt attended the District
Changeover and provided a brief overview.
-
Past President Charles Pitt announced that one of his last duties as
President was to write to Jodi McKay offering congratulations on her
political success on behalf of Strathfield Rotary Club. Remembering, of
course, that Jodi is an Honorary Rotarian with
this Club.
-
PP
Charles Pitt presented P.P. Raymond McCluskie with a cheque for the
Strathfield School for Seniors. The money will
pay for computer licensing.
-
At last, the Rotary Club has now a dedicated storage
room for the many, many items that are part of our history and those
items that are used weekly. Thank you Paolo Giammarco for your efforts in
negotiating this with the Strathfield Golf Club. We await the keys!
-
Rotarian Paolo Giammarco (and past Club Service Director) gave a brief
overview of the meetings and progress made with the RWHESCA Awards process
for the current year. RWHESCA stands for Rotary
Western Harbour Emergency Services Community Awards. The 2019 Awards
Dinner will be held on 2nd August. The following service areas – Fire and
Rescue, Marine Rescue, Ambulance Service, Rural Fire Services, State
Emergency Services and the Volunteer Rescue Association are included in
these awards.
-
PP Rick Vosila, Andrew Aravanis and PP Peter Smith attended the Trivia
evening for the Chalmers Rd. Special School
held recently. A considerable sum was raised. One of the next major projects
for the school is to have a covered shelter constructed for the students.
GUEST SPEAKER
The scheduled guest speaker was unavailable due to illness so meeting Chair
Janelle stepped in and provided a glimpse of her life from a young child, with a
farming background, to ballroom dancing to study and work life. Janelle shared
photos of the many happy times with Rotary family. These created interest with
the group and shared memories.
