Meeting Chair Notes 24 July 2019
These notes were prepared by meeting chair for last week 17 July, Rotarian Janelle Watson
LAST WEEKS MEETING
It was a happy atmosphere at Rotary last week. We even managed quite well
without the Sergeant!
The “Coin Toss”/ “Heads & Tails” was reinstated by popular demand. Thank you to
PP Keith Byrn for running this session. Congratulations Roy Ellis for winning
the bottle of wine.
The Raffle raised $210 – well done everybody.
MATCHING GRANTS PROGRAM
On behalf of Usha Garg, the
Community
Services Director (click), I mentioned that there is a in the very early
stages of development. It will be based in Australia and focused on mother and
child health. The location of the project is a small Indigenous community on the
edge of the Tanami Desert, north-west of Alice Springs. The
project (click) is in conjunction with PP Allan Teale and specifically his
daughter Molly Teale who is a teacher at the school at Yuendumu. A Child and
Family Centre exists and is heavily used and the idea is to provide additional
facilities for both the Centre and the primary school. Discussions and support
have already been received from President Arie and at District level as well.
More on this from Usha and Allan in due course.
POLICE
OFFICER AWARDS
The Police Officer Awards event is to be held Wednesday 18th September.
Paul Anton gave an overview of progress thus far with several donations and
sponsorships already confirmed. Well done.
All of us are encouraged to register for the event soon and not leave it
until the last moment!
BULLETIN
Thank you to Bradley Ayres for his ongoing work organising the weekly
Bulletin. A time
consuming task very professionally done.
WEBSITE
Likewise, an extremely time consuming role is undertaken by PP Raymond McCluskie
and that is management of the
Club’s Webpage. This website contains lots of useful Club and District
information.
Of particular interest is the
“Brief history of the Strathfield Rotary Club” that has been written by PP
Roger Vince. A members’ section has also recently been added to the Club
webpage. When you scroll down the page, this is the first entry. Thanks to Paul
Anton for suggesting this and to Raymond for organising same.
GUEST
SPEAKER
The
guest speaker, Adam Scougall, provided an insight into the world of interior
design with many before and after photos. Several Rotarians spoke to Adam after
the meeting and gathered his business card so perhaps there may be some colour
and design changes to various homes shortly…
Farrukh Mirza has done a great job organising the guest speakers but some
assistance would be useful, so if we know of anyone who would be appropriate and
available to be a speaker please let Farrukh know.
ARIE'S BACK
This week Arie Pappas will be back from his holiday to chair his first meeting
as President.
THANK YOU
Thank you once again for the opportunity to lead the meeting and for everyone’s
support.
