 President's Blueprint

What an excellent Literature Extension Program, culminating in an equally excellent group of presentations last week from those students from Strathfield Girls High School. Well done to Youth Services Director Bradley Ayres in organising the program and presentations in conjunction with Deputy Principal Debbie Irwin. Debbie is moving permanently to Port Macquarie in the next few weeks; however she assures us she will try very hard to ensure this worthwhile program continues, and that Strathfield Girls High School continues its close association with our Rotary Club.

At the first Presidents meeting for the year the focus was on Membership Development and Public Relations/ Advertising. As PP Rod is now on the District Membership Committee, I am sure his track record and subsequent input will have positive results in increased membership for the District. Our close association with the local newspaper, Strathfield Scene, is providing good monthly coverage of our Club activities and Rotary in general.

Rotarian Warren Abbott is having a slow recovery with his Osteoporosis health problem. Warren assured me he would be back at the club in the next few weeks. Get well Warren. Rotarian, Secretary, Allan Petersen had a minor operation on Friday 10/8 at Strathfield Private. He is recovering quite well and should be home on Monday 13/8. Get well Allan.

LAURAS’ CULTURAL EXPERIENCE.
Our Club as a whole has committed to the Youth Exchange Program This year we have an excellent student in Laura Fleurquin who would like to share her culture with some of our members’ families, other than those families who are hosting for the four lots of three months. I can assure you that you will benefit from the experience. When you wish to host Laura for a day outing or for a dinner at your home, all you have to do is call.

This year Meriden School has committed to raising funds for World Vision thru the 40 Hour Famine Project. As you know Laura is a student at Meriden, and as such she has committed to this worthwhile fundraiser. “Every $ 40.00 raised will help to feed and care for 8 children for one month in under-privileged countries the likes of Laos.”

As all members of our Rotary Club are Laura’s’ family for her 12 month stay, those family members who would like to sponsor their “daughter” should see Laura after the meeting with your donation. PS Laura enjoyed a visit to Manly Beach on Sunday afternoon with Janet and me.

Remember “Service Above Self”.

President Brian
