Rotary Club of Strathfield

 President Electric's Lines

Wednesday 22 April 2009

What two excellent away meetings we have just had – for those that were unable to attend, the Elizabeth Farm experience was well presented by members of the Historic Houses Trust, a step back in time. I was glad the supper was not prepared in the scullery.

OTEN opened our eyes of the ease and the availability of education no matter where you are. The meal put on by OTEN on the evening was scrumptious. Our thanks go out to Ron Wright and his staff for such an informative evening. Well done Neil Kennan and Peter Smith – once again making “moi”  look good.

I hope the Easter Bunny was good to all and the break has bought us back rested and ready to go. Penny and I had a fine get away, but now the credit card needs replenishing.

On Friday Rod McDougall and Kevin Beltrame, our bikers extraordinaire, represented Strathfield Rotary in Burwood Park when the Rotary Health Bike Riders passed our way, they rode with the official riders from Burwood Park to Strathfield Park wishing them well on their way.  These riders were being sponsored for their ride around Australia raising funds for the Rotary Health Foundation – mental health. Thursday the 23rd is the Youth Golf Day, Ray and his crew have put in a great effort setting up this youth initiative.  Whilst on youth, next week is our Youth Achievement Awards evening in conjunction with Strathfield Council. Tony Lanzafame has worked with the council in selecting the recipients of these awards, this will be an uplifting evening to show case our youth.

Anzac Day breakfast at Cape Cabarita this Saturday will commence at 8am. David and the Cape Cabarita crowd have organised the proceedings, it will be a time of remembrance and reflection.

Don’t like to harp fellows – the Bush Dance on the 9th May – the commitment sheet is circulating so please fill it in for yourself and friends.

‘Service Above Self’ award forms are due back to Secretary Allan by next week. Please consider what fellow Rotarians you feel most deserving of this accolade.

Tonight we have guests looking forward to learning about Rotary and its workings; as Rotarians we need to advertise the ethos of Rotary and educate others in its programmes, tonight is a step in this direction.

And remember:  Fun and fellowship in Rotary

President Grahame
