From the President’s desk
12 September 2018
Hi all
Transfer meeting
This week we have moved our
meeting to Nonna & Co, Italian Restaurant, and welcome the Meriden
Interact Club to tell us of their trip to Laos. The dinner menu of
pizza, pasta and gelato, is a perfect treat after a hard day at
school, if not after work, the mid-week dinner to carry you through
to Friday.
Presidents
Meeting
Last Friday evening the Presidents of the West Harbour Clubs met. We
were generously hosted by Assistant District Governor Renga Rajan,
and his wife Bharathi Rengarajan. The discussions on the night
centred on working together on projects, also getting to know our
neighbouring clubs:
A West
Harbour project last year was the local district
Emergency Services Awards. This was
a successful effort for those Clubs that participated. Our Paolo
was at the meeting and spoke of the scope and planning for the
next such event to be held in March or April 2019.
The Presidents also spoke about drought
relief. Their Clubs have different approaches.
Representatives from the Granville Club are flying out to Lake
Cargelligo, to find out how best to support farmers, indirectly
supporting the town businesses by sourcing their aid locally.
Some clubs favour a formal “adopt a town” approach. Concord is
adopting Quirindi, on the Northern Tablelands.
At Strathfield, we have contributed
$1,000 to the Rotary (RAWCS)/Channel 9 "Fighting for our
Farmers" fundraiser and $500 to the Homebush Boys High Interact
club "Buy a Bale" appeal. We have more options, but for the time
being we are sitting on the fence, in the back paddock, hoping
the creek will flood."
At the
Meeting, Bharathi, reminded us of the
gender imbalance in Rotary, a topic about which I can
only agree. She is organising a forum next Saturday and invites
everyone, including non-Rotarians to attend. See our
district (9675) website
for details.
Last weeks meeting
At the excellent suggestion of Peter Smith, the proceeds of last
week's raffle and sergeant's fines session are to be donated to
prostate cancer research.
