President's Pieces

6 August 2003

Welcome to all members and visitors.

Tonight we welcome Strathfield Municipal Council, Councillor Cathy Jones who will be speak to us about historic Strathfield.

Last week we enjoyed the company of District Governor Warwick Tester and his wife Lyn. Warwick provided us with an outline of his goals for the year, and gave us encouragement to achieve our goals.

Warwick reminded us that we needed to continue to seek and obtain membership growth. He also reminded us of the importance of making visitors to the club welcome.

One of the things I have mentioned in previous weeks and also mentioned by DG Warwick is the District information night to be held at the Rooty Hill Convention Centre on Friday 15 August 2003 at 6.30 p.m. This is an opportunity for recently joined Rotarians to learn about the different areas and projects of Rotary and for not so new Rotarians to brush up on their Rotary knowledge.

Also last week Camille Erskine provided us with an update on her career and the success she has achieved in Prague. What a delightful young lady Camille is and we should be proud that we have assisted this young local girl who is a wonderful ambassador for our club and our country.

As I write this piece I am feeling pretty pleased because the Wallabies were successful on Saturday Night against South Africa, sorry Garry.

Congratulations to Shirley Del Prado on being awarded Strathfield Municipal Council’s “Neighbor of the month” in July, well done Shirley.

I mentioned last week that Silverwater Club is hosting children from Bourke for work experience in Sydney and was in desperate need to find accommodation for 9 children. I have received another call from Richard Bell, of the Silverwater Club, on Friday and he is still in urgent need to find accommodation for 8 children, arriving at the end of next week for 1 week.  The children have undergone extensive interviews with teachers, the Rotary Club Bourke and parents prior to their selection. Both the child and the parents have also signed a Code of Conduct document. If you can help with a bed for 1 week please make contact with Kevin Beltrame.

Finally, a reminder to those members who have still not paid their 6 monthly dues of $110 (inclusive of GST). It would be appreciated if those “guilty” members could attend to their commitment as a matter of priority, especially as the Club has had pay its dues to RI already.

Keith
