President's Pieces

15 October 2003

Good evening fellows and guests.

Firstly welcome & congratulations to all Pride of Workmanship recipients and also welcome to family and friends of recipients to our special evening in which we recognize individuals who have been identified as having pride in what they do.

Objectives of the Pride of Workmanship Program are:

  • To promote Vocational Service.

  • To encourage Pride of Workmanship in all vocations.

  • To provide employers with an opportunity to recognize employees who display the qualities worthy of an Award.

  •  To encourage favourable employer/employee relationships and a sense of community pride in individual achievement.

  •  To provide an opportunity for Rotary to be involved in the community, particularly the business community.

Last Friday our club provided a BBQ at the corporate headquarters of Qantas Airways Limited. The BBQ was an idea from the Public Relations Department of Qantas to have a sausage sizzle for Qantas staff during their lunch break in order to catch some of the excitement on the eve of the opening of the Rugby World Cup. The request to provide the BBQ was received by President Elect, Keith Byrn at 4.30 p.m. on Wednesday, thanks to the enthusiasm & commitment of a few people we provided a successful BBQ a day & a half later. Thanks to Sue Byrn for doing the shopping on Thursday and a special thankyou to Kevin Beltrame, Peter Douglas, Angelo Franco, Niall King, Ray McCluskie, Roger Vince and Ray Wilson who made it happen on the day and when I arrived around 11.30 had everything well under control. In summary a successful day all round and a small amount was raised for our charities, final counting is to be completed.

A reminder that club elections will be held on 3 December 2003 to elect the Board for the 2004/2005 year. I would encourage all club members to consider nominations for positions on the Board and other positions of office. Remember it’s your club, you get out of it what you put into it.

Finally, thankyou to Vocational Services Director, Brian Johnson, together with his assistant Grahame True for the planning and organisation of this evening’s function

Have a good week

Keith
