President's Pieces

19 May 2004

Hello fellows,

This evening I welcome Alan Davidson and Mrs. Davidson and partners of Rotarians.

There are 3 Probus clubs operating in Strathfield and I welcome the presidents and their partners, Janet Lie and Kwie representing Strathfield ladies club, Ken Goodrick and Betty representing Strathfield men’s club and Keith Heness and Thea representing the South Strathfield men’s club.

A final reminder that the Salvation Army’s Red Shield appeal will be on next Sunday 23 May. The Rotary Club of Strathfield has traditionally been a strong supporter of the Red Shield Appeal and I encourage as many members and family to assist on this day.

As I mentioned last week one of the District’s goals this year was to assist the Millennium Foundation for ovarian cancer research. The funds raised from the raffle tonight will be dedicated to the Millennium Foundation for research into ovarian cancer. I will present the funds to the District Governor at the Presidents’ meeting this Friday night 21 May.

Congratulations to Rod & Maree McDougall who became grandparents this week when their daughter gave birth in Chicago last week. I understand grandfather Rod is doing fine.

Last Friday I was at a District Finance Committee meeting and as I left, District Governor elect Lloyd Roever asked me how many Strathfield Rotarians will be attending the district changeover, my reply was ”I will have to take that one on notice and get back to you”.

Please give consideration to supporting Lloyd by attending the changeover evening. Details are; Saturday 26 June, St. Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill 7.00 p.m. sharp, $50.00 per person 3 course meal including beer wine & soft drink. A commitment sheet will be circulated next week.

On Sunday Euan Watson, Alan Taylor, Stephen Taylor, Kevin Freund and myself participated in the annual Central Coast charity cycle event organised by the Rotary Club of Erina. The number of participants I believe were in the vicinity of 350. The event was quite different to our “Bike the Park” event as it was totally on hilly in fact very hilly public roads, an event for experienced riders and certainly not recommended for young family groups with children. However whilst it was generally a tough ride I still enjoyed it and the weather conditions where ideal.

 Have a successful week.

Keith
