Members fortunate enough
to be at last week's meeting were treated with an opportunity to
listen to (and share a beer with!) two of Australia's active
serviceman. Recently returned from Iraq, Dayton McCarthy and Scott
Fully graphically described the situation faced by our troops –
with some very interesting commentary on the difference between
the US and Australian armies. Those present enjoyed a great
evening. My thanks to David Giri.
Thirty shoeboxes loaded
with Christmas presents for the children of Timor Leste East Timor
are winging their way from Strathfield. Thanks to all those who
found the time to make up a box – it was clear that a lot of work
was put into some of them (see photo later in bulletin). Special
thanks to Bradley for organising the effort and delivering the
boxes.
October is vocational
services month and for our club the time for our Pride of
Workmanship awards on 18 October. As usual this will be a
apartners night. Kevin Beltrame has the arrangements well in hand
and nominations are now closed.
Please invite your friends
and colleagues – this will be an excellent evening and an ideal
opportunity to show off Rotary and our club
Ray Wilson and Niall King
are now in the process of issuing invitations to our information
night on 8 November. Although not officially a partners night,
members should feel free to invite their partner – and put an end
to that separation that occurs in some households on Wednesday
nights!
Please give your
invitation suggestions to Ray. Thanks to those who have agreed to
speak on the night.
As some may be aware,
Euan's therapy is proceeding and he is going through a demanding
phase. I know he will welcome phone calls of good wishes.
The last page of this
week's bulletin contains the current director portfolios and
committees. Please ensure that you are aware of your role in the
club. Please send questions or corrections to me.
Enjoy Rotary …
by getting
involved!
