What a night!
Past President George encouraged us all to "enjoy Rotary" during his
year – and indeed we did for the changover. George and Catherine
organised a superb night ensuring that we marked the end of George's
very successful Rotary year in fine style.
It was a pleasure to welcome many distinguished guests and friends,
including Strathfield Past Presidents Kevin Lawrenson and Peter Kilkeary
who made the trip from the mountains. Club member attendance was
excellent - a great send off for George and a very much appreciated
welcome for me.
The creation of two new Paul Harris fellows was a highlight of the
evening. Congratulations to Brian Johnson and Grahame True on their very
thoroughly deserved awards.
Strathfield Golf Club provided their usual excellent service – and very
generously sponsored the evening financially. We have extended our
thanks and appreciation.
Congratulations to Roger Vince and Peter Foss for their organisation of
an excellent district changeover at the Waterview. Strathfield was well
represented to see Harley Tarrant inducted as district governor for
2006-07.
I feel very privileged to be offered the opportunity to lead the club
for the next 12 months and extend my thanks to all those who have
expressed their good wishes as I enter my year.
Our international theme for this year is Lead the Way - a challenge to
be innovative and to question the status quo. A call, I believe, for all
of us to rekindle our enthusiasm and commitment to Rotary.
“If Rotary ceases to be a responsibility and becomes a mere relaxation
or pastime, its usefulness will cease.” Paul Harris, Houston, 1914

involved!
