This
week we extend a warm welcome to our many guests joining us for
the annual Pride of Workmanship Awards.
A highlight of the Strathfield Rotary year, the awards are our way
of recognising men and women, nominated by their employer or
others in the community, for their achievement and commitment to
hight standards of performance in the work place.
Last week's address by guest speaker Mr Qiu Shaofang, the New
South Wales Chinese Consul-General gave members and guests a
first-hand, and at times quite frank, view of some of the many
developments underway in China. It was interesting to learn of the
strategic importance that China places on its ties with Australia.
My thanks to David Giri for his efforts in securing the
Consul-General's first visit to a Rotary club.
The total number of Christmas shoeboxes to be packed for shipment
to the children of East Timor now exceeds 760!! Supporters are
needed on 4 November to assist with the loading of the shipment
container at the Donations in Kind Centre at Prospect. Volunteers
will be offered a tour of the centre. Please contact Bradley
Ayres.
Membership development was a key theme at District Governor Harley
Tarrant's presidents meeting held this week. Following recent
survey work there is confidence that at least three new clubs can
be formed in our district.
The concerns that we had for the future of the bulletin are now a
distant memory thanks to the great work by Bulletin Editor Bob
Templeman. On behalf of all members, our thanks, Bob.
Planning for the Rotary Information Night on 8 November is well
underway. There is still time for you to submit the names of
suggested invitees to Ray Wilson.
Enjoy Rotary …
by getting
involved!
