Anzac
Day falls on a Wednesday this year and our club meeting for this
week has been cancelled.
Perhaps
Australia's most significant national day, Anzac Day is a day when,
across Australia, we commemorate those who served in military
conflict defending our country.
Many of
us have first hand experiences with those who went to war on
Australia's behalf. In my case my grandfather served in the first
world war and my father in the second world war.
Our now
well established tradition within Strathfield Rotary is to mark the
day with an Anzac Day breakfast at Cape Cabarita. This year David
and Margaret Croft have kindly organised the event. All members and
their families are welcome. Please advise David if you are
attending.
Our next
club meeting will be 2 May 2007 when our gust speaker will be Andrew
Starr of Aldi Australia.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

The Fallen"
