It was a pleasure to see such
an excellent roll-up of members last week. I hope we can maintain
the level of enthusiasm, the club meeting has quite a different feel
when well attended.
Our speaker Chris Fitzgerald
from TransGrid was excellent and impressed us all with the quality
of the engineering and project management which underpins the
extensive NSW high voltage transmission network. All performed for
approximately 8% of the amount we pay for electricity as consumers.
As Paolo Giammarco announced,
we have been asked to consider a youth exchange arrangement which
does not require the hosting of the inbound student. Our club would
provide financial support only. The arrangement presents some
problems, which would be avoided if we were are able to host.
Interested members should contact Paolo.
Planning for our community
services project involving a special afternoon out for senior
citizens is well underway. Thanks to Connie Galletta for her
personal efforts in defining the objectives and for getting the
project started.
Thanks also to Connie for
arranging the prizes kindly donated by BMW Sylvania and to Richard
Horwood for conducting an auction at such short notice.
We have some interesting
meetings coming up. Ian Robertson the CEO of the Rotary Youth Driver
Awareness Program (RYDA) joins us next week. The following week we
will host a literature night for Strathfield Girls High, arranged by
Bradley Ayres. This is an optional partners night. And this will be
followed by our annual Police Officer of the Year Awards, arranged
by Kevin Beltrame, with special guest Commissioner Ken Moroney
But this week is club assembly
– an important event for all of us on your board. I trust the
meeting will be productive and we will receive many constructive
suggestions for improvement in the operation of the club.
