Steve’s Snippets 17 July 2002

Talking to Margaret Croft the other night, she said "You will have a different and active social life for your presidential year". Well that certainly seems to be true so far. This week I went to Concord’s changeover on Monday night, presided over my first "legitimate" board meeting on Tuesday (thanks to Keith Stockall for the venue), tonight’s club meeting, and then my first Presidents’ meeting with DG John Wakefield this coming Friday night (with Keith attending also). And then the board and I (along with other selected Rotarians I believe) have been invited for morning tea with the Mayor on Tuesday morning next week.

At this rate the year will be gone before I know it……

Keith has made an excellent social start to the year with our upcoming "Yulefest" weekend on August 10 and 11. Already 11 couples have signed up and I expect more this week. I hope you won’t miss it.

Upcoming next week are "Oliver!", and in August "Man of La Mancha" and "The Snowy River spectacular". Hopefully in September will be "Mama Mia" and "Cabaret". Keith will update you all progressively. Keith may also have some details of a restaurant visit to Tony Lanzafame’s cousin’s restaurant in Haberfield.

Welcome back this week to Brian Hennell from his sojourn to Greece and other exotic ports; perhaps he might give us a small "travel" report tonight with a more in-depth talk another night. Brian will now be on the job as Program chair, and I look forward to his undoubtedly excellent selection of guest speakers.

Past President, Sergeant at Arms, Jack of all trades Euan Watson has made an excellent start as Chair of our "Night for Children" fundraiser as it is now called on March 21st 2003. Euan , PP Peter Manenti, Allan Teale and Angelo Franco (and myself when needed, together with help I hope from you all when asked) will be organising this important function. Details will be provided as they come to hand. Beneficiaries will be The Childrens National Medical and Health Research Foundation, The Infants home at Ashfield, and the Art for Kids program at The Rotary Wing of Westmead Childrens Hospital.

Finally, thanks to PP Peter Foss for his excellent report on the health or otherwise of our Presidential trees in Edwards Park South Strathfield. My condolences to those who have passed on or are not in the best of condition. I am sure Peter is closely working with the Council to "rejuvenate" or "rebirth" the appropriate trees.

Steve
