Merry Xmas and best
wishes everyone, for our
last meeting of 2002.
Last weeks Xmas
party at Angelo’s will certainly go down in my memory as a night of fun,
friendship and the true Xmas spirit of giving.
Thanks to the
organisational brilliance and salesmanship of George Helou and John Leftwich,
and the generosity of many of our members we were able to supplement the
clubs $3,000 donation to our "helping the bush appeal" with an additional
$3,145 (plus another $200 or $300 received by Brian Johnson later) donated
by members either through private donation, the great raffle on the night,
or by John’s fantastic
auction. This excellent donation was supplemented by donations of wine,
toys, fresh fruit and vegetables and health care products. Brian and Janet
Johnson delivered the donation and goods directly to Ron Downes, the Moree
Rotarian and Salvation Army Commander in Moree on Friday, and I believe they
received an excellent reception from the town people. Brian will give a more
detailed report tonite.
I gave a brief
telephone radio interview on Thursday afternoon to the local Moree station
with the main Rotarians present, and there was stunned silence when I
indicated our donation had increased from $2,000 to over $6,500.
Well done everybody
and THANK YOU !!!!!
Back to the Xmas
party, a big "well done" to President Elect Keith for his organisation. The
food was excellent, the location terrific (if a bit noisy), and I’m pretty
sure everyone got enough to drink, and we even had a visit from Santa too.
Tonite,
deliberately, is a low key evening with NO guest speaker and few
formalities, so that we can enjoy each others company, and get home early.
Obviously we WILL
NOT be meeting for the next two weeks, and therefore our first meeting back
will be a partners restaurant night out at Axi’s restaurant at Hunters
Hill(owned by Eric Khu’s son in law) on Wednesday January 8th 2003.
A 2 course meal
(main and dessert + coffee) will be $27.00 and the restaurant is BYO. (A $3
corkage charge applies)
The cost is a
modest increase over our normal meal cost and I can assure those who can
make it, that it is a great restaurant in a lovely spot. And easy to get to
as well….
PLEASE complete
the commitment sheet handed out by Keith Stockall tonite or contact Eric Khu
in the normal way.
The following
weeks meeting (Wed 15th Jan) will be our last night at the bowling club.
This will be a BBQ evening and our traditional "bowls night". While it will
be a sad occasion in many ways, particularly for our longer serving members,
I hope it will be a fun evening of good memories with good friends. Please
make an effort to attend this evening if you can.
Then the next
week (Wed 22nd) will be our first meeting at Strathfield Golf Club. The
dinner cost will increase to $22 per head; however we will be served our
meal, rather than the present buffet style. Keith and I have been promised
by Chef Rudi that the meals will be of equal quality to those served
recently at the GSE partner’s night.
Normal attendance
rules and apologies will apply, so PLEASE if you can’t make it DO APOLOGISE
to Eric Khu.
Finally I ask
everyone to keep clear of my car please. I am getting absolutely paranoid
after the THIRD incident in five weeks last Friday. My door handle was
broken off and mirror damaged while the car was PARKED at the local bottle
shop. And this was only three days after picking the car up from a poor
repair from the first accident last month, causing me to drop my power
steering fluid all over the road. Keith Byrn to the rescue again.
And yes GT, no
bike news again this week, I didn’t even ride on Sunday.
