Thanks for your support and encouragement for
the clubs "Helping the Bush " campaign launched last week. I look forward
to swelling the clubs donation with member contributions and Xmas goods.
During the week I received an email from Moree members including the
Salvo’s officer in the area.
The text of his message is included elsewhere
in the bulletin. It’s a very moving story and one of the reasons I believe
we should try and help.
I felt last weeks meeting was a good one, and
we certainly had a lot to get through, including Brian Hennell’s eulogy to
Bob Taylor, a lot of club business, an excellent "my life" talk from Rod
McDougall, and a very entertaining guest speaker, who I didn’t dare stop
from finishing. Consequently the meeting went somewhat overtime for which
I apologise, however I do ask you to realise that when we do have a lot to
get through sometimes we WILL run over time. I’ll do my best to minimise
it but please be understanding of the projects and programs members are
involved in.
This week we will be supporting the Infants
Home fete with the club BBQ on Saturday afternoon and I ask all members to
assist if they can during the afternoon, including selling our Xmas raffle
tickets. A fortnight later we will again be BBq’ing, this time at
Strathfield Park for our yearly Carols by Candlelight. Yes I know Xmas is
upon us already !!!
Next week will I hope be a special occasion.
Denise Thomas, the retiring Principal of Meriden will be our guest of
honour and speaker at our last normal Partners night for the year
(excluding the Xmas party of course). Due to my early departure for "Nu
Zilland" for the Lake Taupo Classic ride on Sat the 30th. Pres elect Keith
will wear the collars of office (symbolically I’m afraid) for the evening
and I’m sure do a great job I’m sure. Due to my (and Keith, Rick, Euan,
Allan’s) absence until the following Monday there may NOT be a "Steve’s
Snippets for the following week.
Please remember though that this meeting will
be our AGM and election of Club officers for Keith’s year, and a Club
assembly as well.
Congratulations to our cycling team again for
all (nearly) safely completing the RTA "Cycle Sydney" ride last Sunday.
Please be a bit easy on Brian Johnston though as he had a fairly nasty
fall coming down a steep winding corner at The Rocks. A bit of cleaning
up, some repairs to the bike and he was on his way and completed the ride
in good time.
On the subject of riding and fundraising Allan
Taylor will tonite outline a possible sponsorship proposal for kilometres
completed by our team on the Lake Taupo ride, with funds raised going to
our helping the bush campaign of course.
Thanks for your help and enthusiasm everybody,
I’m sure you will all epitomise the values of Rotary in the coming weeks
with the many but worthwhile demands on your time, your money and your
patience handled with aplomb.
Steve
