What an
enjoyable meeting last week, with an almost weekly record attendance of 45
members, a great guest speaker (thanks again Brian Hennell) and much
frivolity.
One thing for
sure is that "Principal" Peter Foss needs to attend more regularly if he
is hoping to get better control of his "class" while singing Rotary Grace.
Flexibility and
adaptability is something I have had to accept readily this year due to
the sometime difficulties or cancellations, or positive opportunities
presented that require a little readjusting of programs.
Well, thanks to
Brian Hennell's flexibility and persistence we will now have the Visit to
the Children’s Hospital this Rotary Year.
The visit will
now be on Wednesday June 4th and this will be an optional partners night
with the visit commencing at 7.00pm. Cost for the night for an EXCELLENT
buffet meal will be $25 per head.
We will be
hosted by PDG Ray Reed and Professor David Bennett from the Hospital and
given a tour of their fantastic facilities as well as the "Art for healing
program" we assisted from funds raised from the Gala evening.
Tonight of
course we welcome President Allan Ezzy from Holroyd Club who with his
excellent group of young ambassadors represented our District in District
1230 Glasgow Scotland for this years GSE exchange. I know their program
will be interesting and professional, especially that of our own
representative Mary Romanous, who works for my wife in the field of
Childcare accreditation.
This coming Sunday
is an important day for ALL members. The Salvation Army RED SHIELD APPEAL
is an important part of our commitment to Rotary and our local Community.
Our guest last week, Salvation Army Captain Michael Pailthorpe expressed a
REAL NEED for 30 drivers this Sunday. PLEASE fellows, try and help if you
can as the more of us that can assist the LESS time we will be needed. I
know many of you have Sunday morning activities planned, as do I with our
Cycling Group, but we will ALL be there, so if we can give up something
important for just TWO hours MAX, then surely so can you.
Arrangements
are in place for an enjoyable presentation and thank you evening on the
18th of June for all our sponsors and volunteers for the bike ride, and
detailed planning is continuing for our fun run on June 29th.
Also fellows
don’t forget to think about the District changeover on June 28th at St
Mary’s.
Finally, don’t
forget to mark your diaries for Friday evening June 27th, our changeover
dinner at the Golf Club. As per previous years we will NOT be meeting on
Wednesday June 25th. Oh! And by the way I promise… no Neil Diamond
performance from me this time, but I don’t know what you can expect from
that extrovert Keith Stockall, especially since he had his last Rotary
indoctrination , sorry briefing last Sunday at The District Assembly (he
even gave up bike riding for the morning !!!!).
Have a great
week and see you Sunday morning at 9.00am at Strathfield town Hall
