What a great start to the New
Year, and our new venue. There were 46 members and three new guests of
members in attendance. And, what a wonderful guest speaker in the Hon
Charlie Linn MLC, speaking about the Kokoda Track. I told you all it would
be difficult not getting a bit emotional listening to him speak about our
soldiers exploits in New Guinea during the second world war and I’m afraid I
was right(certainly in my own case anyway.
And yes, wasn’t the service, the
food and the general ambience of the room excellent.
I hope everyone enjoyed there
long weekend, I know David Croft did !! David was awarded an Order of
Australia in the Australia Day honours list, for services to engineering and
Rotary. Congratulations on a well deserved honour David.
The only bad news received this
week is the resignation of Paul Giammarco. Paul has been on leave of absence
for some time, and sends fond farewells to all our members. In Paul’s
typical manner however, he has still offered to help out with our major
projects during this year, and will be attending the charity fundraiser in
March.
It was terrific to see the
tickets available last week, both for the fundraiser and the associated
raffle for the $25,000 Toyota Corolla. Great work Rod McDougall and Select
Print.
PLEASE FELLOWS now that the
tickets are available do your best to sell that table or three.
Also don’t forget to organise
your golfing partners and dinner partners for our golf day on FEB 20th. I
know Niall King and his committee have done a huge amount of work for this
night.
Lets make it as successful (or
more so) than last year.
Also conference commitments need
to be made ASAP, and those considering the international conference in
Brisbane in June should also be confirming their interest.
Finally don’t forget next week is
our first partner’s night (as a regular meeting) at the golf club.
I’m sure (speaking objectively of
course) that the speaker won’t disappoint.
Have a great week everyone
Oh, and by the way the Thursday
morning tennis comp, featuring the inimitable Graham True and Roy Schmidt
should recommence next week. See not everything is about the c word
Steve.
